October 2013 – What’s On for Cyclists Staying at Moortown Lodge

new-forest-cyclingOctober’s a great time for cyclists to come and stay at Moortown Lodge. There are numerous cycling events running – some almost on our doorstep, others a little further afield:

Wiggle (Saturday 5 – Sunday 6 Oct)

Wiggle is one of the biggest and best events in the UK cycling calendar. Last year The Wiggle New Forest 100 Sportive attracted over 3000 riders. Open to a wide range of riders and abilities, the ride begins in Brockenhurst (about 25 minutes drive from Ringwood) and includes options of a 101 mile Epic route, a 70 mile Standard and a 41 mile Short route.

New Forest Bike Ride 2013 (Sunday 6 Oct)

Starting from Burley, just five miles from Ringwood, the New Forest Bike Ride is open to cyclists of all abilities and is in aid of the Orthopaedics Department at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital (RBH).

The event starts from the WhiteBuckInn and there are four routes to choose from: 10k, 20k, 30k or 60k.

Oakhaven Hospice Bike and Hike (Sunday 6 Oct)

Cyclists and walkers alike can join in this fundraising event at Holland’s Wood Campsite in Brockenhurst, where there’s something for everyone. The event includes a sponsored bike challenge, guided hikes and a family treasure hunt and will raise vital funds for Oakhaven Hospice.

The Gridiron 100km Randonnee (Sunday 13 Oct)

A scenic and friendly autumnal ride, the Gridiron is open to any cyclist and sets off from Lymington Community Centre in the New Forest. The route takes you from Lymington around the periphery of the Forest.
